R v Murat Ayhan [2011] EWCA Crim 3184

The Times, 18th January 2012

On 10th June 2010 at Blackfriars Crown Court Mr Ayhan was sentenced to an overall term of 22 months' imprisonment for offences of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, threats to kill, common assault and criminal damage. The matters had previously been committed for sentence from the Magistrates' Court.

The Court of Appeal, on refusing leave to appeal the sentence, allowed leave to the full court for correction of what was thought to be an erroneous committal from the lower court and clarification of the relevant law.
