Mumin Hashim successfully defends Uber driver in sexual assault trial

September 20, 2016

The defendant Mr K was an Uber driver of 21 year's experience as a taxi driver.

Mr K was accused of taking advantage and sexually assaulting a vulnerable and drunk passenger who was 18 years old at the time.

It was alleged that the driver had started to hold the passenger’s hands progressing to touch her thigh. Thereafter, he was alleged to have touched her chest area ending up with her left breast being bitten leaving a dark bruise.

The defendant who had been a taxi driver for 21 years and had never been accused of sexual assault of any kind categorically denied this. He made counter allegations that it was in fact the passenger who had drunkenly climbed in to the front passenger seat and began to touch him. Having been warned to stop, the passenger continued and attempted to pull the driver towards him and tried to kiss him. After repeatedly warning her to stop her behaviour, the defendant dropped her off at her destination.

The allegation was not brought to the attention of the police until a month after the alleged incident resulting in the defendant being charged and sacked by Uber.

Mumin was instructed by Richard Scotter of TV Edwards, London. For all enquiries regarding Mumin's availability please contact the clerking team on 020 7427 4400 or
