Experience
Prior to commencing pupillage Eliza worked for a leading London criminal law firm, David Phillips and Partners, where she was a fee-earner for eighteen months. She continues to build upon this invaluable experience and with the benefit of having both prosecuted and defended, Eliza has quickly developed a growing practice in all areas of chambers work.
She has a wealth of experience in defending clients in the Magistrates’, Youth and Crown Courts, with the latter including at first instance and on appeal. Recent Crown Court work has included matters of fraud, false identity documents and burglary. She has experience acting for vulnerable individuals, including those with mental health issues.
Eliza has prosecuted in the Crown Court on behalf of the Crown Prosecution Service in cases involving large-scale importation of Class A drugs, rape and assist offender and POCA proceedings and also prosecutes on behalf of the DWP on occasion.
Eliza represents requested persons in extradition proceedings. She regularly acts for private clients in road traffic cases and has extensive experience of arguing ‘special reasons’ and ‘exceptional hardship’, as well as appearing in cases of dangerous and careless driving.
Eliza is experienced in civil appeals (heard in the magistrates’ court) against license revocation, for example the revocation of private hire taxi, liquor and tobacco licenses.

R v I - Counsel for defendant on a 9 count ‘Theft’ indictment.
R v (J & D) - Counsel for co-defendants charged with fraud by false representation and possession of a false identity documents.
(Most Recent) Magistrates’ Court Instructions
R v O - Counsel for defendant charged with ABH in an alleged group action, knife point attack on a couple whilst in their home. Defendant found not guilty after trial.
R v M - Counsel for defendant charged with two Assaults on his wife, through an arranged marriage. Defendant found not guilty after trial.
R v H - Defendant charged with various counts of Sexual Assault, with historic mental health issues.
R v R - Counsel for a youth charged with Sexual Assault on a member of staff at a Youth Detention Centre.
R v W - Counsel for defendant charged with Perverting the Course of Justice and five other lesser offences. Negotiated with the Crown alternative plea to ‘Using an Instrument Known to be False’ (s.3 Forgery and Counterfeiting Act 1981) which greatly improved the outlook for sentence.
R v V - Counsel for defendant (bus driver) charged with Assault on a passenger, allegedly by using his bus as a weapon. Successful half-time submission of ‘no case to answer’.
R v W - Counsel for a youth charged alongside two others with joint enterprise Attempt Robbery. Successful half-time submission of ‘no case to answer’.
