Experience:
Liam specialises in Criminal Defence and is instructed across the full array of Crime, including the importation and supply of drugs, violence, hate crime, burglary and sexual offences as well as fraud and the proceeds of crime.
Liam also has a busy Prison Law practice, representing at Adjudications and Parole Board hearings as well as advising on all elements of Judicial Review. Liam’s practice also includes Courts-Martial, Licensing and Employment Law.
Liam appears regularly in the Crown Court and has been instructed in the Court of Appeal, both against sentence and conviction.
Recent Crown Court cases include:
R v G - Large multi-handed Class A drugs case involving the alleged supply of the drugs in the Surrey area by gangs from South East London.
R v E - GBH case involving glassing and facial scarring.
R v W - Case involving the making of indecent images of children and the possession of extreme pornography.
Fraud:
Liam continues to be instructed in all manner of fraud cases building upon his previous employment history working for a busy city brokerage assessing due diligence, compliance and legal liabilities as well as working as a fraud investigator on multi-million pound domestic and international fraud.
Prison Law:
Liam has built on his experience as a Prison Law Paralegal prior to commencing his pupillage and continues to be instructed in Adjudications and to advise on Judicial Review. Liam has handled numerous Parole Board hearings, including those involving complex psychological and psychiatric evidence Recent instructions include:
D - Instructed in Parole Board hearing in relation to prisoner serving life sentence for the murder of a 62 year-old neighbour.
X - Successfully obtained release on licence in the case of X, convicted of fratricide.
Terrorism & Human Rights:
Liam has been instructed in a number of alleged terrorism cases and continues to maintain an interest in protecting the rights of the accused, whatever the charge. Instructions include:
R v T - Recent case involving threats by foreign national to blow up a bus in South East London.
R v E - Trial on the actus reus alone of a defendant found unfit to plead, accused of sending a number of packages to the Israeli Embassy and the White House, resulting in the US Secret Service placing the White House on a heightened state of Security alert.
International Law & Extradition:
Having previously worked as an Intern on the Charles Taylor Defence Team, Liam maintains an interest in this developing field of law. Instructions include:
R v B - Contested extradition matter concerning attempts to extradite the defendant back to his country of origin, despite the prevalent discrimination against those involved in same-sex relationships.
Courts-Martial:
Liam has received instructions in Courts-Martial and has successfully appeared in contested matters, including outside the U.K.
Employment:
Liam is an accredited member of the Free Representation Unit and has been responsible for running his own cases. Liam has been instructed at Employment tribunal and was recently involved in the successful resolution of a complex case of a Company Director concerning allegations of age discrimination and constructive dismissal.
