Experience
Rowena was invited to join Chambers upon successful completion of pupillage under the supervision of Kerim Fuad QC and Marion Smullen. During pupillage, Rowena assisted in a number of high-profile complex cases at the Old Bailey, notably R-v-Mohammed Saeed-Alim (“the Exeter Bomber”) and R-v-Jake Farhi (murder of Jimmy Mizen).
Rowena is a successful Criminal Defence practitioner, acting for both private and legally aided clients across the full spectrum of criminal proceedings. Her busy Crown Court practice includes defending in matters of serious violence (including s. 18 GBH), sexual offences, firearms, fraud, drug trafficking and supply, armed robberies and burglary. She is regularly instructed in post-conviction financial proceedings (asset forfeiture and confiscation) and is well-versed in the CJA 1988 and Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
Rowena takes a particular interest in cases involving difficult points of law and procedure and has a proven track record of securing acquittals through technical and legal argument. These skills are of particular use in road traffic and dangerous dog offences, in respect of which Rowena is frequently instructed by private clients.
Advisory work (Criminal and quasi-criminal)
Rowena regularly provides comprehensive written advices (often at short notice) on request. Rowena is also happy to advise in conference at a time and place convenient to both the professional and lay client.
