Alex Kettle-Williams, Barrister

Alex Kettle-Williams imageAlex graduated with Honours in Spanish and Music from Exeter University before being called to the Bar with the Inner Temple. She has been a tenant at One Inner Temple Lane since 2006.

Experience

Alex enjoys a successful defence practice, including both private and publicly funded work.  Her Crown Court practice extends predominantly across Greater London and the South-East. Alex is experienced in cases involving serious violence (s.18 GBH and armed robberies), arson, witness intimidation, drugs supply, fraud and sexual offences. She is frequently instructed in cases involving confiscation and forfeiture, has successful experience with contested ASBO cases and has been led as Junior Counsel in separate matters of murder and money laundering.


Alex has most recently expanded her practice into the areas of Prison Law and Judicial Review, the latter most notably in relation to review of post-tariff detention of IPP prisoners - a subject on which she spoke as part of the ongoing Chambers’ Seminar Series. Furthermore she has significant experience in a variety of cases at Courts Martial, both at home and abroad.

R v D (2011 – Woolwich Crown Court)

Acquittal secured in 3 of 4 counts alleging historic gross sexual indecency with defendant’s son. 

R v X (2011 – Camberwell Youth Court sitting at Southwark Crown Court)

Multi-handed violent disorder; month-long trial of 8 purportedly gang-involved youths (T-Block / Cherry Gang) involving numerous and complex legal arguments. 

R v O (2011 – Inner London Crown Court)

Only acquittal secured in multi-handed conspiracy to supply Class A drugs (c.£750k).

R v X (2010 - Cambridge Crown Court)

Acquittal secured in s.18 GBH stabbing.  Case involved multiple legal arguments, hostile witnesses and young defendant. 

R v A (2010 – Guildford Crown Court)

2 week 10 count fraud trial (c.£100k) involving complex analysis of extensive financial records, contested handwriting evidence, multiple legal arguments and subsequent full-day contested POCA hearing. 

R v B (2010 – Kingston Crown Court)

Multi-handed armed-robbery trial.

R v W-T (2010 – Isleworth Crown Court)

Privately instructed case; aggravated arson. 

R v B (2009 – Guildford Crown Court)

Acquittal in 2 count conspiracy to supply Class A drugs; defendant a convicted prisoner in solitary cell at time of alleged offences; extensive PII and disclosure applications involved.

Murder; instructed junior; trial fixed following defendant’s purported recent confession to the killing some 7 years ago.

Multi-handed blackmail.
